Job Description
Assistant Teaching Professor - Department of Biochemistry – University of Washington
The UW Department of Biochemistry is currently searching for a full-time, non-tenured 12-month teaching track Assistant Teaching Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023. Assistant teaching professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The successful candidate will teach and administer a multi-section undergraduate biochemistry laboratory course in the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. Specific responsibilities include: preparation and presentation of pedagogical materials, administration and in-class guidance of laboratory activities; training of graduate students in teaching methods; and handling administration for the class. This includes supervising 1 staff member and the undergraduate and/or graduate students who assist in teaching the course.

Additional teaching will be assigned as needed and would likely be a portion of one of the large introductory undergraduate biochemistry courses.
Positive factors for consideration include postdoctoral experience, teaching experience in both lab and classroom settings, and experience teaching or mentoring graduate or undergraduate students. We welcome candidates from any background who can articulate how their academic experience makes them qualified for this position.

The base salary range for this position will be $7,084 to $10,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Review of applications will begin on February 26, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.
