The Research and Data Analysis Division (RDA) at the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is searching for a professional researcher. Your areas of focus could include homelessness and housing instability, economically disadvantaged families, the State’s response to the opioid crisis, and other human services.
You will collaborate closely with research professionals and analytic programmers to conduct ad hoc analyses and in-depth research while contributing to the ongoing improvement and maintenance of RDA’s unsurpassed analytic data infrastructure. Depending on your skills and interests, you may manage complex data collection activities or data linkages, develop performance metrics and dashboards, produce rapid-cycle descriptive reports, or conduct in-depth outcome evaluations.
Some of What You’ll Do
Collaborate with your research team and agency partners to compile data, formulate meaningful analytic approaches, and generate policy-relevant reports.
Develop, test, and report meaningful and robust metrics that reliably characterize the experiences and outcomes of clients served by DSHS and partner agencies.
Develop and update performance measures, periodic research briefs, and dashboards.
Prepare and present reports summarizing relevant analyses.
Provide technical assistance, training, and quality assurance for external partners conducting data collection in support of program evaluation.
A master's degree in social or behavioral science or a related field with at least 2 years of experience conducting research, data collection, or project management in social, behavioral, or related areas of inquiry.
A bachelor's degree with 4 years of relevant experience may substitute.
Two college-level courses in statistics.
Skills and Abilities
Familiarity with economic assistance and housing programs, substance use disorder and mental health treatment, or other human services preferred.
Experience manipulating data and conducting statistical analysis (using SAS, R, SPSS, STATA, or similar applications).
Experience working with complex, person-level data and data systems.
Ability to produce professional reports, briefs, and infographics.
Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office suite of applications.
Familiarity with REDCap, the Homeless Management Information System, or the Government Performance and Reporting Act is a plus.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
