The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Research Associate 2 to work on the UHealth Campus. The Research Associate 2 will work closely with senior investigators focusing on airway, respiratory, lung and sleep issues. The individual will study Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), which is characterized by periods of complete cessation of breathing (apnea) or marked reductions in airflow (hypopnea), sleep fragmentation, and frequent oxygen desaturations, leading to a state of chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH). The overall goal of this pilot project is to determine whether the long-term effect of nocturnal oxygen therapy affects the mortality and morbidity on patients with Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) and Heart Failure (HF). The incumbent will be responsible of several basic science projects, designing and executing experiments, keeping clean and organized records, and analyzing data. He/She will acti vely contribute to manuscripts and presentations derived from the work and will be the lead research coordinator for multiple projects.
Scheduling of research subjects with for appointments to collect data on Apnea and Hypopnea Index (AHI)
Analyzes and collects data associated with research hypoxia treatments on study subjects
Analyzes and collects data associated with oxyhemoglobin saturation during hypoxia treatments with pulse oximeter
Coordinate with a certified Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) a Six Minute Walk (SMW) test for exercise capacity
Collect data from the results provided by RRT after completion of the SMW, and analyze gathered information in accordance to the New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class ranking
Appointees will support research activities at the University and work under the direction of a principal investigator, program director, or designee of the principal investigator or program director, such as Assistant Scientist or above.
Appointees will contribute to basic and applied research activities and may play a lead role, including authorship of scientific monographs, and advance their expertise through education, training, and/or research experience.
Appointees are not expected to write extramural proposals, but may do so with approval by the principal investigator/program director.

Bachelorís Degree in relevant field required
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
