Senior Packaging Engineer

Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc., a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Senior Packaging Engineer based in Skillman, NJ.

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Consumer Health business to create a new publicly traded company. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 24 months, and it will be subject to legal requirements including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as required, and other customary conditions, and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of a new entity within New Consumer Health and your employment would be governed by New Consumer Health’s employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by New Consumer Health at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

 

The Senior Packaging Engineer has responsibilities in leading development of new packages, including improvement and cost reduction of existing packages for the Skin Health Franchise. The individual will be responsible for all required specifications, documentation, package line trials and package testing to support product release.  The individual will be required to work independently with moderate supervision.  They will also be expected to take a leadership role with packaging projects and possess the ability to closely interact with the other cross-functional groups including other Global Engineering Associates, Research & Development, Marketing, Project Management, internal and external manufacturing sites, and Quality Control.  This role will require creative problem-solving abilities for trouble shooting technical packaging challenges and a sound technical background.  The position will primarily support LCM and BB Package Development.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical knowledge of packaging processes, materials, and methods to address technical issues in package engineering
  • Performing assigned engineering tasks while focusing on learning business, processes, and systems
  • Following day to day objectives and performing routine tasks under direct supervision with some autonomy
  • Assist in the development of new or revised packages
  • Develop packaging specifications and documentation.  
  • Responsible for packaging line trials and package testing to support product release
  • Interface with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment to offer packaging experience
  • Develop procedures and processes within broader protocols
  • Organize specific areas of projects within a defined scope
  • Contributes to budget estimates and timelines
  • Ensures completion of activities within compliance and on-time
  • Contributor on small teams in addressing specific technical packaging issues
  • Creating and / or developing innovative processes and packaging solutions that meet business needs
  • Understanding of consumer needs and delivering packaging solutions to meet these needs
  • Optimizing engineering systems in support of departmental goals

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline

 

Required:

  • A minimum of 4 years related experience, co-op experience, internships, etc.
  • Highly motivated individual with strong technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • In depth knowledge of materials and processes used in construction and manufacturing of packaging (ex. Extrusion/injection molding, dispensing systems, glass)
  • Ability to take a highly collaborative approach with the ability to manage multiple rapidly changing priorities with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects and timelines
  • Must exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to interface effectively with project teams, management, and vendors
  • Ability to apply technical packaging knowledge, principles, and practices

 

Preferred:

  • Strong technical writing/documentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify root causes, draw conclusions, and generate reports that present sound data driven conclusions

 

Other:

  • This position is based out of Skillman, NJ and requires onsite support in addition to travel both domestic and international up to 10% depending on project needs.
