The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer will play a leading role in the development, implementation, and management of data warehouse solutions to support data enrichment initiatives for ASU. This position offers a fast-paced, energetic, and technically rich environment with many opportunities for advancement. The BI Developer is responsible for developing and testing moderate to complex SQL using Redshift database objects, providing leadership and technical coaching to junior team members, and developing and maintaining data models and documentation.

$83,013 - $90,000 per year; DOE
Works with users and business analysts to translate functional requirements into technical data warehouse solutions in a Cloud Computing environment (AWS Redshift).
Develops high quality moderate to complex SQL (analytic functions, advanced joins, effective dating).
Designs and develops SQL to splice rows into Type 2 dimensions to add new, historical attributes.
Designs ETL job templates and architects Redshift data structures to integrate diverse high volume data, capture changes, and maintain both historical and current information.
Develops and tests ETL Jobs (Matillion, DataStage, S3), including incremental logic and slowly changing dimensions.
Designs and develops Redshift/Spectrum objects (tables, views, stored procedures).
Demonstrates strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills in developing and supporting data warehouse and ETL solutions.
Produces data models and database designs, including dimensional models.
Performs performance tuning, analysis and recommendations; optimizes SQL, data structures, and ETL design to improve performance.
Learns new technologies quickly and adapts to changing toolsets.
Applies, researches, and refines best practices for data warehouse architectures, methods and features.
Performs change management of objects from DEV to QA and QA to Production.
Maintains existing data warehouse objects and code.
Provides production support for ETL jobs in a 24 x 7 environment.
Participates and multi-tasks as an Agile self-starter.
Communicates complex conceptual and technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
Deals well with ambiguity, prioritizes needs, and completes projects on time and in scope.
Works effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Provides technical coaching and leadership to other team members.

Bachelors degree in a business, information technology or closely related field and three (3) years experience in data modeling or database design using SQL or similar language and use of ETL process analysis and design, BI tool use and administration as well as user training/documentation development experience OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Experience working in higher education, EdTech or other education-related organization(s).
Experience working with data from higher education ERP systems (examples include PeopleSoft, Banner, Workday, Salesforce)
Significant experience (3+ years) designing SQL and ETL jobs to create enriched data.
Ability to optimize queries and ETL jobs to improve performance and quality.
Experience with database design including dimensional models.
Experience with PL/pgSQL or similar procedural language.
Experience working with high volume data sets.
Familiarity with feature engineering processes.
Experience providing data for reporting analysts, statistical modelers, and/or data scientists.
Comfort learning new technologies, and working with ambiguity and agility.
Ability to model empathy, compassion and emotional intelligence
