Annual Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists

Annual Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on January 13, 2023

It’s that time again! Metcalf Institute is excited to open applications for the 2023 Annual Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists (AWJ). It’s the 25th anniversary of this fee-free, immersive program, and we’re looking forward to an extra-special year. Applications are due February 6, 2023.

Metcalf Institute’s AWJ is for full-time professional journalists of any medium looking to learn more about research and topics relating to climate change science, impacts, adaptation, and justice. It’s designed to bolster Fellows’ understanding of the methods, norms, and culture of science, in order to better inform their reporting. We welcome journalists of all beats, in particular those without a scientific background.

The 2023 Annual Workshop will take place in June, and will explore the natural, social, and engineering research guiding an equitable transition to clean energy.

Fellows will dive deep into issues such as the promise and challenge of using clean energy, the Inflation Reduction Act’s opportunities and impact, community and governmental response to the clean energy transition, and more. We welcome applicants who specialize in areas such as business, finance, technology, policy, and politics, as climate change shapes all of these fields with ever-increasing urgency.

Thanks to Metcalf Institute's endowment and the generosity of private donors, the fellowships include full tuition, lodging and meals and some travel reimbursement. This year, there are both in-person and virtual components to the workshop; please refer to the website for more information about dates, eligibility, the application process, and alumni from previous years. Applications are due by February 6, 2023. We look forward to hearing from you!
