Careers To Explore if You Want a Hands-On Job

Careers To Explore if You Want a Hands-On Job
Posted By: Dixie Somers on June 16, 2022

In these days of outsourcing and the automation of many tasks, it's difficult to know what jobs are still available which require a hands-on approach. So in this post, we'll outline several career options that allow you to be hands-on. Whether you're an experienced tradesperson or a young person just entering the job market, you'll find careers in this list that will suit you. Here are some careers to explore if you want a hands-on job.

Manufacturing Job

Many careers in manufacturing involve intricate, hands-on work. This is a great career to consider if you like working with your hands. It's important, of course, to be able to move your body and joints just the right way when doing detailed work like welding, cutting, or polishing. You'll also need high communication skills as you'll need to get instructions directly from the boss and others who control the project. If this sounds like an appealing industry for you, consider applying for a manufacturing job.

Production

This includes the manufacturing of the products which are sold to the consumer. Before starting this career, however, you'll need to gain a reasonable level of education first on such subjects as math and writing. This is because it's necessary to produce accurate data and documents to prepare things like price lists and marketing material. If your job involves research, you'll also need a very good memory.

Restoration Work

If you love the thought of bringing old things back to life, this is a great career to consider.

All those things which are made today are becoming more and more sophisticated. Many have an operating life of just a few years, so they're often tossed out to purchase a new replacement. The downside is that we're losing our traditional skills and knowledge as each generation forgets that which their forebears handed down.

The alternative to this situation is restoration work. For example, a steam train might be rusting away in a museum because it can't be repaired. If you're one of those people who has the skills and knowledge to repair it, you'll probably find a job that lets you live a fascinating and rewarding lifestyle. This work is often found in museums, art galleries, and heritage sites.

Security

This is a growing area in which many careers require a hands-on approach. The job market for this sort of work is also continually expanding because we are increasingly worried about our privacy and security. That's why more and more jobs are being created to protect our computers, homes, cars, and other important possessions.

Photography

If you enjoy the thought of capturing still images or movies by using a camera, this is a career to consider. Although it's not hands-on work, you'll need to learn how to use your hands to point and focus the lens on the camera. You'll also need good communication skills because you'll need to give instructions to your clients (who will be paying you) and other people who work with you. Great communication skills are a must if you're working in a team.

You'll need to use your body, hands, and arms in several careers. Of course, there are many others too. If you're looking for a career where you can use your hands, then these 5 are great places to start.
