This position designs, initiates, and conducts complex research and evaluations of social and health services programs. Research and Data Analysis Division (RDA) projects may be conducted on various topics including economic assistance, housing and homelessness, education outcomes and achievement, behavioral health, employment, developmental disabilities, long-term care, child welfare, and health economics.

Some of what you’ll do:

Conduct sound scientific research studies that evaluate the need, demand, use and outcomes of DSHS services.

Act as the lead researcher in specific program area.

Collaborate with other researchers and analysts comprising a multi-disciplinary research team.

Ensure that studies provide valid, rigorous, professionally sound, policy-relevant, and understandable information.

Respond to ad hoc requests for data and information from a variety of sources.

Identify and develop performance measures and key indicators for use in monitoring and evaluating programs.

Advise on the development of indicators and dashboards across the agency to assist in monitoring, improving, and reporting performance and impact of services.
Qualifications & Requirements
Professionals with a Ph.D. or equivalent in economics, public policy, sociology, demography, statistics, psychology, or related field. A master’s degree with some documented experience conducting quantitative, policy-relevant research may substitute for a Ph.D.


Two years of work experience using sophisticated quantitative research methods: design, sampling, and complex multivariate statistical analysis.

Three years of experience in conducting quantitative research regarding the impact of programs, interventions, policy changes, and/or predictive analytics relevant to health or social services.

SAS programming skills and recent use of SAS for statistical analyses and merging data sets.

Senior authorship of one or more published reports or peer-reviewed articles detailing research and evaluation findings

Demonstrated experience in participating as a contributing team member with other researchers, analytic programmers, and other to produce high-quality research, evaluation, and policy reports.

Specified knowledge of and experience conducting research related to social and health services.
